Jonathan and Janine have now been at The Sandpiper Inn for over 25 years, during which time they have built close relationships with trusted local suppliers.
Before establishing The Sandpiper Inn, Jonathan won the prestigious Roux Scholarship, which led to his appointment as Chef de Cuisine at Birmingham’s only five-star hotel. Leading a team of 32 chefs, he created the menu for the heads of state at the G8 summit banquet held at the city’s Botanical Gardens.
Since then, The Sandpiper Inn has received numerous accolades, including Yorkshire Life Dining Pub of the Year and Gastro Pub Top 100. The inn is also proudly featured in the Michelin Guide, further cementing its reputation as a must-visit dining destination.
With its award-winning cuisine and warm, traditional charm, The Sandpiper Inn offers an undoubtedly desirable place to dine whilst visiting the Dales.
Restaurant Access
The front entrance to The Sandpiper Inn is not wheelchair accessible due to the steps here. Staff will be happy to direct you to the entrance around the back which leads to double patio doors to 'The Snug'. From here, there are 3 steps which lead into the rest of the building, therefore 'The Snug' is the only wheelchair accessible area from this point. Aside from this, the main dining room and bar are both level access. The outdoor seating either side of the front entrance does not have level access.
Ambience
The Sandpiper Inn offers a deluxe, sensory dining experience complete with Yorkshire Dales charm and local comforts. Cold evenings become cosy inside the restaurant, with log fires and warming foods to warm the soul. The main dining room is a larger space, decorated with beautiful wooden furniture. The booth seating by the fire can be slightly louder due to its central location around the bar and main entrance. For those who prefer a quieter dining environment, 'The Snug' area is fitted with comfortable, plush seating, which is tucked away under the soft lighting, as you listen to the subtle background music.
Toilet Facilities
There are only Male and Female toilets available in the restaurant. The Male toilet is indicated by 'Cocks' and the Female Toilet is indicated by 'Hens'. The 'Hens' is found near the bar up one step and the 'Cocks' toilet is found in 'The Snug' (up the 3 steps). The nearest accessible toilet is directly across the road courtesy of Leyburn Market Town.
