Is the distillery wheelchair accessible?

There is level access direct from the car park into the building via a small concrete ramp, leading to a single door which measures 770mm wide, but double-door access can be opened on request (1500mm wide). Inside, there is good wheelchair circulation space, but no wheelchair accessible tables as these are all high, barrel-style tables. There is a toilet cubicle, but this is not level access or has any accessible features installed. There is a stage used for staff and musicians, but this is a raised platform with no ramped, level access.

Your Sensory Experience at the Wensleydale Spirit Distillery

Visiting the distillery is certainly a treat for the senses. Visually, the design of the building reflects the industrial theme throughout. The engine shed turned venue is traditionally decorated with antique distilling equipment and interesting items, tactile barrels for tables and rustic, textured leather bar chairs and stools. Whilst treating your taste buds to the extensive range of spirits on offer, the venue often hosts live music events with local artists which altogether create a fantastic ambience in this little corner of Leyburn.

Distillery Ambience

The ambience of the distillery is fantastic any time of day but offers different experiences at all hours. During the day, enjoy the sun streaming through the windows and illuminating the space as you enjoy the relaxed atmosphere, usually in the presence of a smaller crowd this time of day. Later in the day into the evenings, enjoy the ambient lighting and cosier feel to the venue, possibly with the company of some live music from talented local artists if you happen to visit on the day of an event. The overall style of the distillery may be a point of interest for visitors with Dementia, as old-style photographs and items can be found dotted around the venue and bring more character to the space. The venue is indoors; however it can sometimes feel a little chilly due to the high ceilings in the former engine shed. However, overhead heating is present to combat this and keep you comfortable.

Is the distillery suitable for visitors who are blind or have sight loss?

The distillery offers a fantastic sensory experience from the sunshine to the sundown hours. Throughout the day, lighting and visual contrast is always good, and large print is used on the menu boards which display visiting and spirit information which is easier for all to read.

Is the distillery suitable for visitors who are deaf or have hearing loss?

Please note there is currently no hearing loop available at the venue.

Toilets

The distillery has a unisex toilet cubicle only, with a small step to enter and a door which measures 740mm wide. Inside, there are both paper towels and an electric hand dryer available, but no other accessible features or equipment. The nearest accessible toilet is located next door to the distillery at the train station, via a level access route.

Parking

The distillery is located just outside of Leyburn's main market square, so the venue has its own car park on site which is immediately outside the entrance and is free to use.

Changing Places Locator

The nearest Changing Places Toilet is located in the main car park by the accessible bays behind the market square (near The Golden Lion Hotel). This is up a slight incline from the distillery, around an 8 minute walk.
